Features of the Textbook (English)
外国語を学習する際には、十分な量の理解可能なインプットが必要不可欠ですが、基礎的な語彙や漢字、文法を学習中の初級・中級前半レベルの日本語学習者に、多くの読解・聴解活動を提供するのはやさしいことではありません。『ポップカルチャー NEW & OLD: ポップカルチャーで学ぶ初中級日本語』の目的は、初級、中級前半の学習項目を使いながら日本のポップカルチャーについて学習することで、内容のあるインプットや実践的に日本語を使用する機会を増やし、初級後半（授業時間にして130～150時間程度の日本語学習を終えたレベル）、または中級前半の学習者が中級後半へと到達するためのサポートをすることです。具体的には、以下のような特徴があります。
- 日本の大衆文化･ポップカルチャーと日本語が同時に勉強出来る。
この教科書では、古くは江戸時代から現代に至るまでのポップカルチャー（大衆文化）を扱っています。学習者の興味が強い日本のポップカルチャーについて、その時代背景や歴史的関連性のある江戸時代の大衆文化なども含めて色々なことが学習出来るので、楽しく日本語学習を続けることが出来ます。 - 内容を重視して読み物が書かれている。
日本研究の分野で使われる文献や研究に基づいて読み物が書かれているので、学習者の知的レベルに見合った学習を進めることが出来ます。 - 初級・中級前半の学習者が使えるようにデザインされている。

It is a well-known fact that a sufficient amount of understandable input is essential for successful foreign language learning. In reality, however, it is not easy to provide plenty of reading and listening comprehension activities for elementary and early intermediate-level learners of Japanese who are still acquiring basic vocabulary, kanji and grammar. The objective of POP CULTURE NEW & OLD: Elementary and Intermediate Japanese through Pop Culture is to help upper elementary-level (in terms of classroom time, somewhere from 130 to 150 hours of Japanese study) and early intermediate-level Japanese language learners reach the upper intermediate level by providing a variety of content-focused input in the form of interpersonal, interpretive and presentational activities that explore various aspects of Japanese popular culture. Throughout the textbook, learners are given plenty of opportunities to improve their language skills through learning Japanese popular culture. Specific features of the textbook are as follows.

This textbook covers popular culture from as early as the Edo period to the present. Learners can use this material to study the historical background of the modern popular culture topics that interest them, adding cultural context and enabling them to continue learning the Japanese language in a fun way.- The reading materials focus on content.

These unique cultural learning experiences allow learners to deepen their understanding of Japanese popular culture.
